Frequently asked questions

What does Zero-Waste ? mean

Zero waste means 'no waste'. The goal of the zero waste movement is to send as little waste as possible to landfills and incinerators, with the ideal of eliminating waste altogether. To do this, we look for products that can be reused or recycled over time instead of thrown away. This creates a sustainable and closed loop. The zero waste movement strives for a circular economy where resources are used efficiently and waste is minimized. While achieving absolute zero waste can be challenging, zero waste principles can lead to significant reductions in waste production, resource consumption and environmental impact.

How can you live more sustainably ?

To live more sustainably, prioritize reducing consumption by only purchasing what you need. Choose reusable products over disposable ones, such as bags, bottles, and containers. Compost food scraps and choose products with minimal or eco-friendly packaging. Repair and reuse before you throw anything away. Embrace secondhand shopping and donate items you no longer need. Refuse single-use plastics and bring your own cutlery. Educate yourself on local recycling and waste management options. Support businesses that support sustainable practices. Small changes, like meal planning and using cloth instead of paper, add up to a big impact on reducing waste and preserving the environment.

You can find more information and tips on our blog and our social media like Instagram or TikTok, or contact us for specific questions. You can also visit the website of the brand of the product you are interested in.

How do you ensure that the products are sustainable ?

We try to source as many products as possible from local manufacturers. This is better for the environment because less greenhouse gases are released through transport. For some materials and ingredients this is of course not possible, as they cannot be sourced locally. We also look for manufacturers that directly or indirectly support charities and are small, independent companies. When it comes to products, we look for highly recyclable materials, ingredients, certifications, production processes, reusability and working conditions.

How do you maintain sustainability in the delivery process ?

We use the smallest recyclable delivery boxes possible, paper tape instead of plastic tape, and recycle packaging materials where possible. For recycling cardboard, you can leave the paper tape on.

Everything is 100% plastic -free ?

Our goal is to provide as many eco-friendly alternatives to single-use plastic products as possible for every area of life. We try to make as many products as possible plastic-free, but sometimes this is not possible, such as cosmetics that are legally required to have a plastic seal. Offering a better alternative is more important to us than eliminating all plastic, because every little bit helps. When a product is not 100% plastic-free, we look for products that are reusable or have refills, so less plastic is wasted. We ensure that we always find the most sustainable option for each type of product.

Orders

How can I pay for my order ?

We accept payments with:

  • Credit card
  • iDeal
  • PayPal
  • Bank contact
  • Klarna
  • Apple & Google Pay
I forgot to add something to my order, I have to place a new place ?

Contact us via hello@theplasticfreecompany.com over this problem and we will add it to your order so you don't have to pay double for shipping.

Who pays the international customs duties ?

Customs duties are the responsibility of the customer as we have no control over these charges. We recommend looking up your country's customs duties and regulations before ordering so you don't have any surprise charges. Within the EU, there are no additional customs duties.

Shipping

Which courier do you use for sending packages ?

We use DHL, GLS and PostNL for shipping our packages within the Netherlands and most countries in the EU. For international shipping we use DHL or UPS depending on where you live so we can offer the best shipping rates.

How many days does it take before my delivery arrives ?

We process and ship packages within 1-3 days after your order confirmation. Delivery usually takes 1-3 business days after your order has been shipped. Once your package has been shipped and scanned, you will receive a track and trace code from Intrapost about the status of your shipment.

What are the shipping costs ?

In the Netherlands, shipping costs are €4.95. For orders over €60, shipping is free. For information about shipping abroad, see our shipping page, click here.

I entered the wrong address, what should I do ?

Before your order is shipped:
If we have not shipped your order yet, please email us at hello@theplasticfreecompany.com with your order number and the correct address, then we will adjust it before we ship.

After your order has been shipped:
If we have already shipped your order, unfortunately we can't do anything anymore, because this is out of our control. Your order will automatically be returned to us by PostNL, after which we can resend it. The extra shipping costs in that case are for the customer.

If you decide to cancel your order, we will have to deduct the €7.50 return shipping costs from your total refund.

We ask you as a customer to understand that we are a small business and every time we have to reship an order, we are not only losing profit on it, we are actually losing money.

We therefore ask you to carefully read and understand the following policies:

If you have made a mistake when entering your address, we will have to send you an invoice for the full cost of reshipping once the order has been returned. If you do not want this, we can refund your order minus the return shipping costs.

This policy is not our preference and certainly not our first choice. The easiest solution is to fill in your address carefully and check it when placing your order. If you notice an error in your address, please contact us as soon as possible via hello@theplasticfreecompany.com, then we will be happy to help you!

What if a package is lost or damaged ?

The Plastic Free Co. is not liable for any packages that are lost, damaged or marked as "Delivered" by the delivery service as this is beyond our control. However, if you would like your package to be insured up to €500, you can select the option at checkout delivery + insurance for an additional €2.50. In that case, we can send you a new package if something goes wrong. Without insurance, we cannot help you with lost or damaged packages.

However, upon request, we can start an investigation to find the location of your package and possibly find a solution. If your package has not arrived after the planned delivery date, please contact PostNL first. If that does not provide a solution, you can contact us and we can start an investigation.

Please make sure to notify us within 14 business days by email at hello@theplasticfreecompany.com, so we can investigate and process a refund or credit for a lost or damaged package. If your order is marked as delivered and you have not chosen insured delivery, we are unfortunately unable to assist you.

Accept your returns or exchange ?

We have a 14 day returns policy which allows you to return or exchange products. You can read more about returns and exchanges on our returns policy page.
